It really depends on what you are trying to do with it. Outside of maybe gaming (and only really flashy new gaming, at that), computers do seem to have a much longer useful lifespan than they used to.

I wonder why it is having difficulties with DVDs. I wonder if there is just some software issue on your machine draining resources and making everything run poorly or if it is something as dire as mechanical failure or as trivial as dust on a lens.
