Too old to trust?
I still have my old Mac with its DVD drive and a small USB external drive which I can use with any of my Linux machines.
About a year ago, however, I wanted to get something reliable to read all optical media and found a basic Blu-Ray player so I just have that for watching things. This did open the door to more media options since, as much of physical media is getting harder to find, much of the newer releases are Blu-Ray only (even if older content).
However, this does mean that I don't currently have anything to allow my computers direct access to Blu-Ray media as the player is a self-contained unit.
